When I was in Boston at the beginning of summer, my taxi driver was asking all the places I have lived (reciprocally, I was asking him about the stops on his life path). “I lived in Philly for four years, NYC for 12, LA for almost 4 and now Washington for almost 7.” His response? Sounds like it’s time to move.
I laughed about it because it kept coming up. Different friends were getting psychic messages that I was moving. That same weekend my friend Manduh gave me a psychic reading and my Grandmother came through. She said my mother’s choice to move away from the Land (Mom decided in May, moved in July) would “Make my life choices easier.” And that I was moving somewhere “More convenient.”
At the time I rejected it. I love where I live. The Olympic Peninsula is heavenly. The forest meets the sea! So much coastline! Eagles! Orcas! The Land I have been living on has a water view! And private forest to walk! My neighborhood is mostly organized lesbians! Some of my neighbors are Mean Girls but most of them are GREAT helpful humans and a joy to live near!
I genuinely think Sequim is Secret Sedona–full of energy vortexes. Since I have been house/pet sitting in the area I have experienced how cool and healing the energy is in other little pockets.
Sometimes a big life change needs our attention in a slow roll not all at once. But it does sometimes take on a life of its own and that is what is happening for me.
My BFF Rachael has a boundary that she won’t live with someone until she knows them for a year. We have known one another for 25 years and I have always wanted to get to live with her! She and her spouse have been looking for a house for a long time and the offer that finally went through (after like 4 or 5 offers on other houses, and three tries on this house) was on a dream home for her and for me! It has a Bevin sized apartment on the lower level!
Her spouse actually started with the “Can Bevin move here?” over the summer while they were still under contract. As a former Real Estate Attorney, I KNOW your house isn’t your house til you close. At first I said I would come out for 6 weeks, then 2 months, then 6 months. Wintering in Atlanta while keeping my place here so I could be a “snowbird.” Sounded so fun. Kept sending recipes to Rachael to put on our what we want to cook together bucket list.
And then not quite 2 weeks ago I got an eviction notice! I have lived on my lot for 6.5 years! No idea my landladies were selling. But that was the decision point. Some other stuff has happened that has firmed up my decision to leave and that is another story for another day.
I feel wanted and welcomed to a new place in a gorgeous house! I get to have a household with Rach & her incredible spouse J. There is a creek and forest on the 1.7 acre property!
Sometimes the closing doors are the ones that tell you it is time to go towards the ones that are opening. I am grateful I finally have the groundedness to be willing to see what is true and in front of me. How often in my past have I explained away closing doors because I didn’t feel safe seeing the truth?
I am excited to see what life has in store for me in Atlanta. I visited for the first time January 2006 and have been countless times since. It is my “hometown of choice.” I am so sad to be leaving the Olympic Peninsula–the forest here is one of the great loves of my life! I will miss my communities here and my friends so much. I am great at staying in touch, and I have enough friends that I can come visit for a couple months surfing guest rooms.
So that is my Big! Life! News! I am moving to Atlanta. I leave on October 25th.
I am putting everything I will keep in a uhaul pod and my car. Everything else must go! I feel so sad about putting usable things in the trash! I hope it will mostly just be easy to rehome the things that helped me live my life here.
I need so much help to make this happen. Three ways I need help:

I am doing most of this work Mon-Thurs Oct 12-15 and then have the following week to finish clearing out and cleaning the RV I have been living in. I can use all the moral and physical support possible!
